My name is Jessica Grono, and I am a motivational speaker from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. During my reign as Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania in 2001 and 2008, I have made many presentations ranging from living life to the fullest to educating future nurses about handling people with disabilities.
Due to cerebral palsy, I use a motorized wheelchair and need assistance in everyday tasks. My brain will send a message to my body but somewhere along the way, the messages are crossed. Therefore, my body arms and legs do not always do what I would like them to do. However, I have never allowed that to stop me from accomplishing my life goals. I have two beautiful children who are 10 and 4. I am a teacher, author, blogger, public speaker and assist my husband run our business.
As a writer, I have worked for several online magazines and news sites. For example, Bella Online, About.com and Examiner.com to name a few. I am also a blogger. In the early 2000s, my friend and I published our first book called Journey into Friendship.
In 2001, I won Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania. It was an amazing experience of travel and educating others about disabilities. In 2008, I was Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania, USA the second time. I came in second runner up to the national title.
In 2002, I married my first husband. I learned a lot during that marriage. I overcome one of my darkest moments when my late husband suddenly passed away in 2006. I became an instant single mother to our than six month old daughter. Laura. I learned to be as independent as possible and raise her the best way possible. I had many help from family and friends. She is now a very intelligent third grader.
I found love again and remarried in 2010. My husband and I welcomed our son in 2013. Jason is a very active and pleasant little boy. He has made our family complete.
I am a breast cancer survivor! In 2016, I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer, which resulted in a double mastectomy. Yes, it was very hard, but I survived!
My husband and I enjoy going places, dancing, being with our kids and travel. I play defense and goalie position in power chair hockey for Philadelphia Power Play. I teach religion and am a volunteer.
